About

Sergej Rachmaninow’s third piano concert is without a doubt one of the most popular pieces for orchestra. Some know it from Scott Hicks’ movie Shine, others love it for its exquisite melodic inventiveness.

“Monumental”, “impossible to play”, “the concert with the most notes per second”: Due to its complex harmonic structures, breathtaking runs and lyric parts Rachmaninov’s third piano concert requires the highest degree of virtuosity but also emotional depth. Qualities that the young Japanese pianist Mao Fujita brings with him. With the late romantic work, Fujita celebrates his debut at the Bregenzer Festspiele. He is accompanied by principal conductor Petr Popelka and the Wiener Symphoniker.
